ASL Classes
At Your Level: I teach classes based on the students’ current skill level, and prefer to work with similarly skilled groups of students. Students will advance to intermediate or advanced material accordingly. Just like any other spoken or signed language, American Sign Language does require practice and consistent study in order to gain proficiency. From what I’ve observed, it can take around a year or more to arrive at a conversational level, depending on how much practice you are willing to put in.
Immersive: I believe immersion is key. I find my students often pick up even more ASL in my classes than those where spoken language is used because we are voice-off and signing from day one! (Important information though will be shared in the Zoom chat in English.) I am excited to share about my Deaf culture with you as well.
Remote: We will meet on Zoom, which makes it possible for you to sign in and sign from anywhere in the world! You can even sign up with your far-flung friends! I use a lot of visuals and PowerPoints. I will not move on with content until I am sure you have a strong understanding of the material. I do practice dialogues and games. I ensure everyone has ample practice time during class with continuous feedback.
